Handy Tips For Cleaning Care Home Chairs
Upholstered furniture requires regular cleaning to keep it free of germs and looking its best. Here are our top tips for keeping a chair clean and bringing it back to life:
TIP 1. CLEAN REGULARLY
Vacuum and wipe clean chairs and sofas regularly with a damp microfibre cloth and tepid water, to remove dust particles and prevent build up of soiling.
TIP 2 ACT QUICKLY
Remove spillages promptly with an absorbent dry cloth.
TIP 3. KNOW WHEN TO USE CLEANING PRODUCTS
If heavier soiling has been permitted to accumulate, try using water only first as most care home fabrics have a stain repellent and water works best.
If this doesn’t remove it then use a mild liquid soap. Ensure that all cleaning products are removed, as they inhibit the stain repellent.
TIP 4. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN
Wipe off bodily fluids promptly (within 15 minutes) with cold water and then clean as directed.
TIP 5. EXTREMELY DIRTY?
For extreme soiling/infection control purposes, use a 5% sodium hypochlorite (bleach) solution, Haz Tabs or Chlorclean.
TIP 6. TO STEAM OR NOT TO STEAM
Steam cleaning is an effective sanitizer but is not a good cleaner. A wipe with a microfiber cloth and water is more effective for actual cleaning.
Steam and heat from steam cleaners actually seal in oily residues from bodily fluids, etc. If steam cleaning is essential, use infrequently for emergency infection control purposes only and in accordance with the machine manufacturer’s recommendations.
TIP 7. WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not machine wash, dry clean or apply other chemicals.
TIP 8. MICROFIBRE
Microfibre cleaning cloths are extremely effective even without soap, which is helpful as soap residues can clog the fibre making it difficult to clean. Tests conducted show that a microfibre cloth and water alone were just as effective in removing marks and stains as using a proprietary cleaner.
We hope this helps keep your chairs clean and usable for a long time.
